Girls With Guitars (UK)
All events
showcase an array of talented unsigned individual female singer/songwriters,
performing their own all-original acoustic material in varying unprejudiced
genres & styles,
in a style evolved from the tradition of a Nashville songwriter night.
The performers are made up of a rotating cast of a core group of women
songwriters
with featured guest appearances and visiting acts from all over the world.
Founded
by Cindy Kalmenson
in 1996, the show originated
in Nashville, Tennessee USA when Kalmenson invited two of her singer/songwriter
girlfriends,
Lisa Carver & Kimberley Dahme, to play a showcase with her,
hoping that they would show up with at least one friend each and double up the
audience count!
Now, the highly successful all women songwriter show regularly packs out it's
Nashville venues,
has guests from all over the world and a huge loyal following.
After
seven years in Music City, USA, the show was finally brought to the UK,
and is spearheaded by it's London host, ex-Nashvillian singer/songwriter, Jae
Avery.
The London division of "Girls With Guitars" was launched on 8th July
2003
in the Basement Bar of the Porter House in Covent Garden, London WC2.
It's now a regular event, with shows every month and its own loyal following.
Shows
usually include an open-mic section for the benefit of newcomers,
guest spots for familiar performers and occasional feature sets for touring
professionals.
And now for the small print: Men are always very welcome on stage in musician
support capacity.
So
come along to hear some fresh inspiring original live songs, acoustically
performed by some of
the UK's finest female singer/songwriters, see some fabulous lady players, and
hear some beautiful voices.
There's no other show like it,
.well, except for the one in Nashville of
course!
